Corrie actress in shoplifting mix-up

Former Coronation Street star Julie Goodyear was involved in a shoplifting mix-up yesterday when her husband was accused of stealing chewing gum.

The actress, 67, and her husband Scott Brand were in their local supermarket when they were stopped and challenged over the Nicotine gum.

According to The Mirror, police were called to the Morrison's store near their Haywood home after store detectives thought they saw Brand put the £15 gum in his pocket.

Goodyear - best known as chain-smoking Bet Lynch - told staff: "It's all a mistake - I have done nothing wrong."

40-year-old Brand explained the mix-up to the store's manager and it is thought that no further action was taken against the couple.
