Actress Clementine Ford, 29, made the revelation about her sexuality to Advocate.
Ford had played the daughter of Shepherd’s lesbian character on Showtime’s popular drama The L Word.
"Look, I am gay. I just wanted there not to be this big emphasis on it," she said.
Her declaration comes five years after ending her four-year marriage to actor Chad Todhunter.
Ford is currently starring in soap opera The Young And The Restless.
