Madonna buys $40 million New York pad

Madonna has reportedly purchased a $40 million (£22.7m) home on New York's Upper East Side.

The singer is said to have secured the property for $5m (£3.4m) lower than the original asking price, according to the New York Post.

The Georgian-style townhouse boasts 13 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms, a 3,000-square-foot garden, a two-car garage, nine fireplaces, an elevator and a wine cellar with a grotto.

The 50-year-old 'Miles Away' singer, who is mounting an appeal against a failed bid to adopt Malawian four-year-old Mercy, reportedly plans extensive renovation on the property to improve its security.

Madonna currently resides in London with her three children Lourdes, 12, Rocco, eight, and three-year-old David Banda.
