The Italian actress insisted that she does not want to see young models promoting wrinkle creams, WENN reports.
The Blue Velvet star was dropped as a spokeswoman for Lancôme in 1992, the same year she turned 40. She had represented the cosmetics company for 14 years before being replaced by a younger model.
Rossellini has been quoted as saying that the decision alienated the brand’s older clientele who want to see women in their own age range in the ad campaigns.
"I understand advertising is about selling dreams but I'm not sure that women dream of staying young," she said. "I don't. I dream of being elegant and sophisticated."
She added: "After Lancôme let me go it took them some time to find a substitute. All research indicates that women were actually pleased to have somebody in her 40s advertising anti-ageing cream because a girl in her 20s doing so doesn't feel right."
