The filmmakers hope to make a change in the lives of real-life kids residing in the slums of Mumbai, where the Oscar-winning movie was filmed.
They have created a five-year scheme to provide healthcare and education through their contribution, according to People.
The international children development organisation Plan is working in tandem with the filmmakers.
A separate trust called the Jai Ho Trust has been established to ensure an education and housing for the movie’s young stars Rubin Ali and Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail.
"Having benefited so much from the hospitality of the people of Mumbai it is only right that some of the success of the movie be ploughed back into the city in areas where it is needed most and where it can make a real difference to some lives," Slumdog director Danny Boyle said in a statement.
