The former lead singer of Gerry And The Pacemakers, 66, was presented with the award for services to charity and Liverpool.
Marsden, who immortalised the transport with his hit 'Ferry Across The Mersey', said: "It is a thrill and an honour to be receiving the Freedom Of The City - and what better way to receive it than on Liverpool's most famous ferry!"
Marsden, who was made an MBE for his services to charity in 2003, has already been given the Freedom Of The Ferries.
