The Batman Returns star told The Guardian that the presence of press photographers has become more intense in recent years.
Pfieffer said: "In the olden days when you had a film coming out, or you were in the middle of some scandal, you could count on [the media] finding you.
"[Now] it just doesn't matter, because they can sell a picture of you taking your trash out."
She added: "When I see what young actors have to endure - I don't believe it when people say, they bring it on themselves. I just want to strangle people when they say that."
"You can't convince me that this is something they are choosing. It is hard enough to process fame when you're at that age."
Pfieffer claimed that the "lines are really being blurred" for members of the public, who are themselves now the subject of online videos of private moments taken on camera phones.
