DeGeneres 'most powerful gay celebrity'

Ellen DeGeneres has been named the most powerful gay celebrity by US magazine Out.

The talk show host, who is married to actress Portia de Rossi, came second in the list behind politician Barney Frank.

Other celebrities on the list include actress Jodie Foster and comedienne Rosie O'Donnell, coming in 36th and 42nd place respectively.

Milk director Gus Van Sant was voted 14th most powerful, fashion designer Marc Jacobs was at 15 and Sex And The City writer Michael Patrick King came in at number 29.

The list is determined by political influence, cultural importance, individual wealth and personal profile.

Out magazine was founded in 1992 and has a monthly readership of nearly half a million.
