Bank charged with £5m Te Kanawa theft

A bank manager has reportedly been charged with stealing more than £400,000 from the retirement fund of Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.

Sokvoeun Su, 27, allegedly transferred the cash from the 65-year-old opera singer's Californian account into one of her own, reports the Daily Mail.

The American, who goes by the name of Cindy, has been remanded in custody after being arrested on Tuesday and charged on five counts of fraud and one of embezzlement.

In total, it is claimed that she made six unauthorised withdrawals which totalled more than £440,000. The Bank of Alameda, in the San Francisco Bay area, has since reimbursed Dame Kiri.
