The man who manipulated a recording of Beyoncé Knowles to make her singing sound off-key has apparently apologised for the hoax.

Matthew Zeghibe claimed that the prank, undertaken to make a point, had gotten "out of hand" after it became an internet hit and was played by DJ Howard Stern.

The 26-year-old student told Rolling Stone: "It was just for a good laugh. It was a goof, just for fun. I do a lot of parodies on my YouTube channel, and it just so happens this one got a little out of hand."

The hoaxer, who admitted to being a "secret fan of Beyoncé", originally posted the tampered video of the singer performing on live TV in January.
