Steve-O's drug and alcohol addiction lead to his hospitalisation in 2008. According to Knoxville, he and the other Jackass stars suggested that their friend seek help, MTV News reports.
"Me and all his other friends - the Jackass guys - have been there the entire time. We were there before he got into show business, before he was on Jackass, and we were there when he completely, absolutely spun out of control and almost lost his life," Knoxville recalled.
"We were the group that put him in the hospital."
The Dancing With The Stars contestant's addiction and recovery will be the subject of upcoming MTV documentary Steve-O: Demise And Rise, scheduled to air on May 3 in the US.
"He documented everything. His whole downward spiral - completely documented," Knoxville said of the show.
