Redmond O'Neal has been released from jail to visit his ailing mother Farrah Fawcett.

O'Neal was allowed to see the former 62-year-old Charlie’s Angels star, who is battling cancer, People reports.

The reunion, made at the request of O’Neal’s lawyer, lasted three hours and the 24-year-old was under supervision from the sheriff’s office.

"A sergeant and a deputy drove him to his mother's home [Saturday] and he's now back in custody," said LA County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore.

The O’Neal family paid for the visit, which amounted to $1,285.39 (£880) for personnel used and mileage accrued during the trip.

"Redmond's attorney had requested that he be allowed to visit his mum a while ago," a source told the publication. "It was not a crisis or emergency. Farrah is status quo. He had a lovely visit with his mum. Farrah was thrilled to see him. It was a wonderful visit."

O’Neal is currently being held in jail pending a court hearing on April 29 stemming from his drug arrest on April 5.
