Cocker clarifies Conservatives comments

Jarvis Cocker has issued a statement to clarify recent comments he made that seemed to suggest his support for the Conservative party.

The former Pulp frontman had criticised the current Labour administration and told GQ that a Conservative government was "necessary" for Britain.

"If you're not going to have Labour you're going to have the Conservatives. You can sense an era passing," he said in an interview with the magazine.

In a new statement, Cocker said: "In no way am I supporting or suggesting that a Conservative government is a good thing, far from it.

"Rather, what I intended to get across was that, in the absence of any real alternative, a Conservative government at this point unfortunately seems inevitable."

Cocker releases his second solo album Further Complications on May 18.
