Speeding soap stars banned

Two soap stars have been banned from driving for speeding - and one of them will have to take his test again.

EastEnders' James Alexandrou, who plays Martin Fowler, will have to re-sit his test after accruing more than six points during his first 18 months behind the wheel. A roadside camera in Portsmouth picked up the 19-year-old actor as he sped through the city earlier this year. He was banned in his absence by Portsmouth magistrates this week.

The Sun also reports that Emmerdale actor Jeffrey Percy - Cain Dingle - was banned from driving for six months after being caught travelling at 92mph on the M62 just before midnight in Halifax.

Thirty-four-year-old Percy, who already had nine points on his licence, told police that he was urgently in need of going to the loo.

The court, which heard that the actor suffered from a bowel disorder, also fined him £150.

The actor is to appeal against the sentence as he fears the ban could cost him his job.

Earlier this week, The Bill's PC Gabriel Kent - actor Todd Carty - was fined £400 at Port Talbot in South Wales.

In November, Jessie Wallace - EastEnders' Kat Moon - was banned for three years for drink-diving.
