DS Icon: Lesley Joseph

Lesley Joseph was probably more excited than anyone when reports surfaced earlier this year that mediocre BBC sitcom Birds Of A Feather was being lined up for a comeback. It has never been for the want of trying, but Joseph has never truly moved on from her caricature as the buxom nympho Dorien Green in the Chigwell-based comedy. Sadly, her outfits as Dorien, which usually included a combo of leather, leopard print and lace, are more memorable than any of her post-Birds roles.

However, we don't wish to dwell on Joseph's flaws and failings, but rather celebrate them. Her unfortunate role in late-night soap disaster Night And Day as Rachel Culgrin and appearances on low-rate TV shows such as The Underdog Show and Cash In The Celebrity Attic are what makes Lesley a true DS Icon. While some people may use the words underachiever, flop, TV failure and one-trick-pony, we prefer to call Joseph a trier, persistent and relentless. More importantly, she still remains an inspiration for actresses with limited skills around the world today.
