Lawyer Raymone Bain is claiming $44m (£29m) for the work she performed for Jackson when she was employed by him during his 2005 child abuse trial.
Bain said: "Unfortunately, Mr Jackson has elected not to honour the financial obligations of our contractual relationship, despite my numerous attempts to amicably resolve this matter.
"I am sincerely disappointed in Mr Jackson's failure to honour his obligations."
She added that the case would result in "theories, accusations and rumours" but said that the truth would come out during the trial.
Jackson has not issued a comment on the lawsuit.
