Boy George has been released from prison after serving four months of his 15-month jail sentence.

The former Culture Club singer, real name George O'Dowd, was jailed in January after being found guilty of falsely imprisoning a male escort at his London home and beating him with a metal chain.

Dressed in a black zip-up top, he smiled and saluted at the waiting photographers as he left Edmunds Hill Prison in Suffolk this morning.

According to the Daily Mail, the 47-year-old was granted early release for good behaviour but will have to wear an ankle monitoring tag, adhere to a curfew and report regularly to his probation officer.

O'Dowd had denied the charges but declined to give evidence during his trial on the basis that it would upset his elderly mother.
