Katie & Peter: The Jungle lovers' story
Published Wednesday, May 13 2009, 11:34 BST | By Alex Fletcher
Katie Price and Peter Andre announced that their five-year love affair was over on Monday afternoon. The couple's romance has been never been far away from paparazzi cameras, while each twist and turn of their marriage has been filmed for reality TV. DS looks back at Katie and Peter's story to try to find out where it went all went wrong.
Romance In The Jungle
When big-boobed glamour model Katie Price (then known as Jordan) met flop Aussie popstar Pete Andre on I'm A Celebrity..., very few suspected that they would leave the jungle as lovers. However, while Jennie Bond, DJ Mike Read, Kerry Katona and John Lydon were all busy with grubs and bugs, Andre was wooing the Brighton girl with impressions of her ex Gareth Gates and his latest pop song 'Insania'. Price later revealed that they kissed for the first time in an Australian hotel shortly after the series ended.
Wedding Bells
One year on from their jungle antics, Price and Andre tied the knot at Highclere Castle, Hampshire. Rumours were rife about the celebrity guest-list and boob-shaped wedding cakes, but in the end, the best of the guests were Sarah Harding, Kerry Katona, X Factor's Rowetta, Jennifer Ellison and Vanessa Feltz. Never ones for understatement, the couple were deposited at the ceremony by a pink horse-drawn carriage, walked down the aisle to Whitney Houston's 'I Have Nothing', were snapped in giant thrones, and sang their cover of 'A Whole New World' for the 350 guests.
The Reality TV Years
It seemed only fitting that a pair of celebrities who met on reality TV should go on to document the rest of their relationship in front of probing cameras. Following the success of ITV1's When Peter Met Jordan in 2004, the pair then went on to star in Jordan Gets Even, Jordan And Peter: Laid Bare, Katie & Peter: Stateside and even launched their own talkshow Katie & Peter: Unleashed. The shows were never classy and generally focused on the pair's strangely volatile and aggressive relationship, but they always drew decent viewing figures and attracted a loyal following of fans.
Troubled Times
After triumphing in a legal battle with the News Of The World over accusations that they were bad parents, the first cracks in the reality TV couple's romance began to surface. Andre was quoted as saying that he didn't trust his wife when she went out partying, while commentators speculated that their recent move to America was a final attempt to save their marriage. Andre continually denied the stories, describing them as "bulls**t", and the pair were snapped together in recent weeks at the London Marathon and British Soap Awards. Yesterday afternoon, however, the pair confirmed what many showbiz insiders had suspected for some time - their marriage was over.
