Pete Burns has denied that he was arrested following a bust-up in central London, insisting that he was attacked by a violent fan.

The former Dead Or Alive singer and husband Michael Simpson were driven home by police after an argument started in the early hours of Tuesday morning outside a Soho restaurant.

"A member of the public kept persisting to take a picture of Pete Burns. When Pete declined, an argument between Pete and the guy started," a spokesperson told Metro.

"Pete got up and walked away but the other person ran after him and pulled his hair and kicked him in the back.

"The police were called and while they waited for the police, Pete went inside the restaurant. While Michael followed him inside, the person who assaulted Pete stole Pete's bag (containing bank cards, a mobile phone and keys to his house).

"When the police arrived to take all the details they offered to take them back to Pete's address, which was why they were in a police car."
