According to Access Hollywood, police officers confirmed that they responded to an alarm call at the property at around 3pm, where they discovered "evidence of a burglary".
An LAPD spokesperson later revealed that a rear window and a rear door showed signs of tampering. No-one was home at the time of the incident.
Speaking to The AP, officer Karen Rayner admitted that the messy state of the house had initially led authorities to suspect that it had been ransacked, although it was later decided that nobody had entered the property.
She added: "[We had to ask] is it normally like this, or did the intruders do it?"
Lohan has yet to comment on the reports.
