John David California's follow-up to J.D. Salinger's classic novel finds a 76-year-old Holden Caulfield flee a nursing home to journey through New York, The Guardian reports.
California said: "It's pretty much like the first book in that he roams around the city, inside himself and his past. He's still Holden Caulfield, and has a particular view on things.
"He can be tired, and he's disappointed in the God damn world. He's older and wiser in a sense, but in another sense he doesn't have all the answers."
The book is dedicated to Salinger with the words "To...the most terrific liar you ever saw in your life", while the now reclusive author also features as a character in 60 Years Later: Coming Through The Rye.
California added: "I'm not trying to lure him out of hiding - maybe he wants his privacy [but] it would be fun for me to hear what he thinks about this, and if he's pleased with the way I've portrayed Holden Caulfield and his future."
