Andrew Sachs has said that he talks "as little as possible" in the media about matters that concern his family.
The former Fawlty Towers actor told ITV1's This Morning that the scandal over the lewd phone messages he was left by Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand would not be included in his upcoming autobiography.
Sachs said: "A lot of people were upset on my behalf and I was very upset really because it was a family matter. I like talking about my business and my profession but when it gets to family it's private, so I said as little as possible and people took that for dignity.
"It affected me but it did me good from a professional point of view. I'm in the picture and I hope slowly to slip into the background...I talk as little as possible about it."
He repeated his belief that Ross and Brand had not learned their lesson from the incident because "it didn't seem to change their behaviour very much".
It was recently claimed that a republished version of Brand's own autobiography My Booky Wook would include details of the controversy.
Sachs makes his first appearance on Coronation Street as Ramsay Clegg during tonight's episodes from 7.30pm on ITV1.
