Minogue named as ultimate gay icon

Kylie Minogue has been named the ultimate female icon by readers of Gay Times.

The singer, who celebrates her 41st birthday tomorrow, came ahead of US chat show host Ellen DeGeneres and former tennis star Martina Navratilova in the annual poll.

The late Harvey Milk topped the list of male icons. The US politician became the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California before being assassinated ten months later.

Sir Ian McKellan was voted second most popular male icon, with entertainer John Barrowman in third place.
