Stone makes speech error in Turkey

Sharon Stone made a mistake while giving a speech in Turkey, reports say.

The Basic Instinct star emceed proceedings at the opening of the Mardan Palace Hotel in Antalya over the weekend.

According to The New York Post, Stone was reading off a teleprompter when she mispronounced the word "Azerbaijan". It is understood that she later told the crowd that she had never heard of the country, before mystifying attendees by shouting out the name of American soul singer Chaka Khan.

"Azerbaijan? What is that? I can't pronounce this! Chaka Khan! Chaka Khan!" the newspaper quote her as saying.

Stone was paid £1 million to host the event which also included other celebrity guests Paris Hilton, Richard Gere and Tom Jones.

The actress previously made a public faux pas when she claimed that the 2008 earthquake in China was down to "karma".
