Melanie Sykes granted divorce

Melanie Sykes has divorced Daniel Caltagirone after an eight-year marriage, it has emerged.

The couple wed in the Caribbean in January 2001 but mutually agreed to separate last year.

Divorce proceedings revealed that Sykes had cited her husband's "unreasonable behaviour" as the cause of their split, the Daily Mail reports.

The court papers read: "The distress I felt at the respondent's failure to appreciate our financial situation is still with me and not likely to abate until our finances are severed following divorce."

A source said: "The truth is they had been growing apart for some time before they split. But things were not made easier by the fact that both of their careers had stalled slightly."

Caltagirone said: "I consider that there was fault on both sides."

The judge concluded that Skyes could not "reasonably be expected to live with the respondent" and agreed that the marriage "had broken down irretrievably" before granting Sykes a decree nisi in a brief hearing.
