According to Female First, the Dollhouse star recently visited Uganda to put a spotlight on the issues facing children who have experienced battle and their attempt to reassimilate back into society.
The actress said: "You learn so much that you would never be able to read in a book...meeting people and hearing stories firsthand."
The trip had been organised by the 28-year-old's mother, Judith, a college professor who specialises in African studies.
