The Miss California USA Organisation confirmed that it would be stripping the beauty queen of her rank "with the blessing of the owner, Donald J. Trump", Access Hollywood reports.
Despite risqué photos of her surfacing on the internet as well as her controversial comments on same-sex marriage, Trump had previously ruled that Prejean could keep the title.
However, it is understood that she failed to meet her contractually obligated appearances for the organisation, leading to the revoking of the heading.
"I told Carrie she needed to get back to work and honour her contract with the Miss California USA Organisation and I gave her the opportunity to do so. Unfortunately it just doesn't look like it is going to happen and I offered my full support in making this decision," The Apprentice star said.
Prejean confessed that she was surprised by the decision because "everyone's been co-operating and everyone's been getting along so well".
"I have no idea what's going on," she added.
Tami Farrell, the runner-up to Prejean, will be the new Miss California.
