Gibson obtains restraining order

Published Saturday, Oct 2 2004, 16:50 BST | By Daniel Kilkelly
Mel Gibson has obtained a temporary restraining order against a man who allegedly stalked him and demanded that they pray together.

The man was arrested on 20 September under suspicion of disorderly conduct and loitering. The restraining order bans him from coming within 150 yards of Gibson, his wife and his children.

Gibson claims that the man arrived at his estate twice. The alleged stalker interrupted him while he was praying, and "demanded that I pray with him."

Mel also received letters from him, which contained verses from the Bible and praise for Gibson's controversial film The Passion of the Christ.

"I continue to be extremely concerned for the safety of my family," Gibson said.
