MacIntyre and wife attacked in wine bar
Donal MacIntyre and his wife were attacked at a wine bar in Hampton Court, Surrey, on Wednesday.

The Dancing On Ice star was beaten to the floor by "four smartly-dressed men" at bar Cloud 9, according to The Sun. His wife Ameera De La Rose was also left with bruising after she tried to protect him.

MacIntyre claimed that the attackers were associates of Chelsea football hooligans Jason Marriner and Andy Frain, who were jailed in 2000 after he exposed them on his TV show MacIntyre Undercover.

The investigative journalist, 43, was left with concussion and taken to hospital following the midweek attack.

"I've had kidnapping threats, been assaulted before, had my car trashed and I've had to move many times," he said.

"I'll take those slings and arrows, but it crosses a line when my wife gets caught in the crossfire. They launched an assault by punching me. My wife tried to protect me when I was on the floor... She is extremely distressed."

Police arrested a 48-year-old man from Addlestone, Surrey, on suspicion of assault but he is currently on bail awaiting further investigation.
