Phil Spector has reportedly been moved to a "sensitive needs unit" in California's largest state prison Corcoran.

The former music producer, who was found guilty of murdering actress Lana Clarkson in April, has been given extra security to protect him from other inmates.

Prison boss Stephen Smith told Access Hollywood that Spector's public profile and notoriety was behind the decision to move him to the secure area, which houses 6,900 other inmates.

Spector is serving 19 years to life for murdering Clarkson at his California home in 2003.
