Jackson mourners gather at Apollo

Fans of Michael Jackson have gathered at the Apollo Theater, where he first tasted fame as a 9-year-old boy with The Jackson 5.

The band won the famous Amateur Night at the legendary live spot in Harlem, New York City in 1969, three years after they founded the group.

Mourners have arrived outside the venue and have been celebrating Jackson's life and singing his hit records.

President of the Apollo Theatre Foundation Jonelle Proscope said: "The entire Apollo family is saddened to learn of Michael Jackson’s untimely passing.

"We will always remember Michael in our hearts as a true Apollo legend, known for his professionalism and grace. Our sympathy goes out to his entire family. He will be deeply missed."
