Coldplay have paid tribute to Michael Jackson in a message posted on their official website.

The singer died on Thursday after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest at his Los Angeles home, aged 50.

Coldplay's message read: "Michael Jackson was the best of the best. His music and performances made the world a brighter place. His light will shine on forever. Coldplay."

Earlier this year, it was reported that the band's frontman Chris Martin was struggling to get tickets for Jackson's O2 arena residency. It was suggested yesterday that artists such as Leona Lewis and Beyoncé will fill in on the late star's dates.

Meanwhile, Coldplay will perform at a string of stadium shows in September.
