Randy Phillips, the chief executive of AEG Live, told Sky News that Jackson was excited about beginning his 50-date stint at London's O2 arena next month.
"I invested a lot of myself in making this comeback happen and he was so happy and he was so amazing in the final week," he explained.
"On Wednesday night at 12.30am when we were leaving the rehearsals, he gave me a hug and said, 'Now I know I can do this'. The next day I was at the dry cleaners... and I got a call saying, 'You have to get to the house'."
Phillips went on to say that he accompanied Jackson to the UCLA Medical Centre and waited outside the emergency room while doctors and nurses desperately tried to resuscitate him.
"They worked really hard... It seemed like an eternity, but it was about an hour or an hour-and-a-half before the nurse came out and said there was no hope."
