A representative for AEG has allegedly claimed that late singer Michael Jackson was covered for death from a drug overdose by insurers Lloyd's Of London.

According to TMZ, company chief executive Randy Phillips said that a $17.5 million (£10.6 million) policy taken out on the 'Thriller' star did not cover death by natural causes. However, he reportedly would be insured in the event of an overdose.

Lloyd's Of London spokesperson Louise Shield revealed that it was unheard of for her organisation to issue such an "odd" strategy, and found it strange that Phillips would even discuss the matter publicly. She added that a "medical assessment" is standard protocol before a policy is written.

It was reported yesterday that the Drug Enforcement Administration is working in tandem with the Los Angeles Police Department's probe into Jackson’s alleged drug use.
