It was announced yesterday that 17,500 tickets for Tuesday's event are being made available to the public, though it was originally thought that only US residents could try their luck in the random draw.
The apparent snub to British supporters led to strong criticism on Jackson fansites. One fan wrote: "Why the US only? That's so unfair."
Meanwhile, Ian Peters, from Preston, told The Mirror: "We're the most loyal fans in the world. We have followed Michael through his triumphs and tribulations for years. And now they have slammed the door in our faces. It's a disgrace."
However, in a new statement, a spokesperson for the event's organiser confirmed: "British fans can register for the memorial."
The ceremony, to be screened on television and online, will take place at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on Tuesday at 10am (PST).
