Simon Pegg becomes father for first time

Simon Pegg has become a father for the first time after his wife gave birth to a baby girl.

Speaking to Us Weekly, a representative for the Star Trek actor confirmed that the couple had welcomed a daughter but declined to give any further details.

Pegg previously admitted that he was "hoping for a baby girl" and was "thinking of having it in America as the baby will then have dual citizenship".

He later added: "I want to be a really good dad, a good influence and a good role model - someone my child can turn to, whatever the hell that means... It's all to do with your attitude and making sure they stay grounded, but making sure they aren't deprived of anything."

The 39-year-old star, who is godfather to Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow's eldest child, has been married to Maureen McCann since July 2005.
