Michael Jackson's ex-wife reportedly broke down in tears after watching their daughter pay tribute to him during a public memorial service yesterday.

Debbie Rowe was photographed looking distraught following 11-year-old Paris Katherine's heartfelt speech about her father in front of thousands of mourners at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles.

Speaking to The Sun, one onlooker said: "It was heartbreaking. However strange her relationship with Jacko, she is still Paris's mum.

"To watch your child so upset on TV in front of millions of people is more than any mum could stand."

Rowe is understood to have watched the star-studded tribute with friends near her Southern California ranch after turning down an invitation to attend.

It was previously reported that Rowe, who was married to Jackson from 1996 until 1999, is planning to seek custody of Paris and her 12-year-old brother Prince Michael.
