The charity record that perennially graces our radios, Do They Know It's Christmas, is to be re-recorded by some of today's most popular artists. Coldplay have now joined The Darkness and Travis.
The original version, created by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, was released 20 years ago and featured the talents of such artists as David Bowie, Paul McCartney and U2. It raised £8 million for famine relief in Ethiopia.
Ure explained: "Chris Martin actually contacted me. He reminds me of a young Bono - the great thing is we have real musicians in proper bands."
Both Chris Martin of Coldplay and Fran Healy of Travis have both told Midge that they will make the project their top priorities and will let nothing stand in the way their commitment to it.
The single is to be released at Christmas and has high hopes of being the Christmas number one.
