Ryan Gosling is quitting his acting career to release a music album, it has been reported.

The Notebook actor, who is already an amateur DJ, releases his first album on October 6 this year.

The 28-year-old star set up his band Dead Man's Bones years ago with friend Zach Shields. The pair apparently took two years to write the album.

In January, Gosling told Pitchfork Media of the songwriting process: "You know when you're a kid and you get crayons and papers and just draw whatever you want and it's just a bunch of messy lines, but to you it makes sense, and then they put it on the fridge. We wanted to get back to that place before we were trying to make the fridge. We wanted to work with people who hadn't been affected in that way yet."

The indie album, which can already be sampled on the band's MySpace page, features a children's choir.
