Theron hospitalised with 'serious' virus

Charlize Theron was last week hospitalised with a serious stomach virus, it has been reported.

The Monster star apparently spent four nights in an LA hospital after suffering from severe abdominal pains.

According to the National Enquirer, the Oscar-winning actress at first thought that she had contracted food poisoning. When the pain didn't pass, her partner Stuart Townsend took her to hospital for treatment.

Townsend was very shaken by the incident and reportedly told friends: "I was scared to death. I had no idea what was happening to her, but this is a woman who never complains, so I knew it had to be serious."

After doctors ran tests and diagnosed the virus, they allegedly said that Theron must have contracted the illness overseas.
