Former EastEnders star Dean Gaffney has been handed a six-month driving ban after pleading guilty to speeding at more than 100mph, reports PA.

The 31-year-old actor was clocked in his Audi TT convertible by police last November, after travelling at 115mph in foggy conditions on the M6 in Staffordshire.

Gaffney, who played Robbie Jackson in the BBC One soap, admitted driving without due care and attention during his appearance at Stoke-On-Trent Magistrates' Court this morning.

His solicitor had disputed the speed, saying the star had been driving at more than 100mph but that the figure of 115mph was inaccurate. He said Gaffney had "made an error of judgement" and "let his speed get far too high".

The lawyer added: "He comes to this court with the sense of respect and humility. He is not some celebrity who thinks he is above the law."

Gaffney was fined £160 and ordered to pay costs of £315. He was handed the six-month driving ban after the court heard that he had 18 penalty points on his licence.
