The stars were promoting their new movie The Ugly Truth at the Four Seasons in Los Angeles when they were ordered to exit along with 400 other guests.
According to People, Butler and Heigl greeted fans and posed for pictures for two hours outside as the investigation got underway inside the luxury hotel.
The Four Seasons reopened some time later after the LAPD failed to find any suspicious or unattended packages.
Police reports claim that the bomb threat was delivered via telephone.
