Amy Winehouse's mum has claimed that her daughter is happier than ever after overcoming her drug troubles.

The 'Rehab' singer is apparently back on form in her professional and personal lives following her separation from ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil and her eight-month stay on the Caribbean island of St Lucia.

Janis Winehouse told Closer: "A year ago, everyone was saying 'Will she get through this, will she even survive?' And look at her now. We've got the old Amy back. I always knew she'd come through it. And I know she doesn't want to go back to the drugs."

However, the star's mum admitted that her daughter has some work to do, saying: "St Lucia was so good in many ways because there were no hard drugs around, but she was bored, so she drank. She didn't have many friends around her. But she's sorting herself out and I'm sure she'll stop drinking when she's ready. I know she's happier now."

Winehouse's ex-husband is reportedly demanding a £6 million divorce settlement after she admitted to having an affair.
