Stephen Baldwin has filed for bankruptcy in New York, saying that he is millions of dollars in debt, according to legal documents.

The brother of fellow actors Alec and William filed for Chapter 11 protection, claiming that he owes more than $2.3 million (£1.4 million).

The Usual Suspects star is believed to owe $1.2 million (£600,000) in property and over $1million (£730,000) in taxes, plus credit card debts.

Earlier this month, Newsday reported that a homeless man living on Baldwin's property had been arrested on heroin charges. At the time, police said that the actor claimed he was trying to do a good deed by letting the alleged drug dealer stay there.

Baldwin's lawyer declined to comment.
