The musical adaptation of 9 to 5 will close on Broadway on September 6 after a five-month run, it has emerged.

No reason was given for the closing of the Tony Award-nominated show, but the production will be taken across the US this autumn, Reuters reports.

Dolly Parton, who wrote the score for the play, said: "I couldn't have asked for a better experience on my first Broadway show.

"I can't wait for this show to hit the road so people across the country can see why I'm so proud of everyone involved. And I'm so pleased that we'll be opening the tour in Nashville. Great things happen in Nashville."

Earlier this year, Parton said that 9 to 5 would "certainly" be staged in London if its initial run was a success.
