Richard Briers has signed up to star in a new West End production of Samuel Beckett's Endgame, reports Whatsonstage.

The veteran actor will play Hamm at the Duchess Theatre from September 24 to December 5. Adrian Scarborough and Miriam Marygoyles have also joined the cast.

Briers will reteam with director Simon McBurney on the production after previously working with him on The Chairs in 1997.

The Good Life star's last London stage outing came in 2002, when he appeared in Bedroom Farce.

Endgame was last performed in the West End in 2004, when it featured Michael Gambon and Lee Evans in the cast.
