The celebrity chef defended her unusual hygiene habits by claiming that locks take a long time to become dirty and do not require excessive shampooing.
Lawson is quoted as saying: "Hair-washing - I do not hold with it. Of course, I do not mean that I never wash mine, but I don't go along with this modern fad to wash it if not every day, then every other day.
"I am not simply a dirty, lazy slob, I just don't believe it is good - unless you are a purveyor of shampoos - to wash your hair any more than it needs. For me, that's about three times a fortnight, or was. Now it is once a week."
The star added that she does not bother to use a hairdryer after washing as she prefers to let her head dry naturally.
She commented: "I also can see that washing short hair is less of a bother than washing long hair. But even then, all my short-haired friends have hairstyles - which I never have had - and thus do styling and blow-drying. I only recently bought my first ever hairdryer, and even then, I don't use it."
