Midge Ure has said that he wants Bono to sing the line he did in the original version of Do They Know It's Christmas?, but Sir Bob Geldof says that the line could be open to anyone.
The line in question is arguably the most effective of the song's lyrics -"Tonight thank God it's them instead of you." Bono sang the bitter words originally in 1984 due to his ability to belt it out, but was not altogether happy with it to begin with.
Geldof said: "I don't know if Bono's definitely doing it, but a lot of these artists could do that line. Robbie could sing the arse off himself and Chris can sing like a bird. Any of these people could have that line."
Justin Hawkins of The Darkness has his heart set on the line. "I want to do a screaming guitar solo and all Sting's parts or Bono's line because they're my favourites," he announced. The idea of a screaming guitar solo may be scuppered by his current hand injuries.
