Andre: 'I want to be friends with Price'

Peter Andre has announced that he wants to resolve his differences with Katie Price for the sake of their children.

In his first tabloid interview since their split in May, the popstar admitted that he is keen to be friends with his estranged wife in the future.

Speaking to the News Of The World's Fabulous magazine, he confirmed: "I know we could never get back together. But I'd like to think we can be friends for the sake of the children. I married Katie because I believed we could make it work.

"A few days ago, me and my brother were watching Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. There was a scene where Richard Dreyfuss's character starts fighting with his wife. The camera pans back and you see a little kid watching, with all this hurt on his face.

"I turned to Mike and said: 'I'm so glad I left before that happened'. It would have killed me if it had got to that stage. You have to weigh everything up. At the end of the day, it was best for all of us for it to finish."

However, the singer also revealed that he is disappointed by Price's recent behaviour, describing her public desire for a fling with footballer Frank Lampard as "so cheap".

On the glamour girl's controversial Ibiza holiday, he added: "I did phone her and tell her she was a disgrace. I said that because that was what I thought."

Despite his unhappiness, Andre insisted that they must now end their public war of words so that Harvey, 7, Junior, 4, and Princess, 2, are not affected in the coming years.

He commented: "I don't want to get into any slanging matches because I worry about my kids. I'm aware that at some stage they'll want to go on the internet, read what happened, and see what was said, and I don't want them to read anything bad their dad has said about their mum."

Price is now rumoured to be involved in a new relationship with cage fighter Alex Reid.
