Ryan O'Neal has admitted that he accidentally hit on his own daughter at the funeral of his long-time partner Farrah Fawcett last month.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, the actor explained that he was so disconnected from his family that he failed to recognise 45-year-old Tatum when she approached him to offer her condolences.

"I had just put the casket in the hearse and I was watching it drive away when a beautiful blonde woman comes up and embraces me," he said.

"I said to her, 'You have a drink on you? You have a car?' She said, 'Daddy, it's me, Tatum!' I was just trying to be funny with a strange Swedish woman, and it's my daughter. It's so sick."

When told about her father's anecdote, Tatum replied: "That's our relationship in a nutshell. You make of it what you will. It had been a few years since we'd seen each other and he always was a ladies' man, a bon vivant."

Fawcett passed away on June 25 following a three-year battle with anal cancer.
